> BAYLAC  Lucien  (1855-1909 or 1851-1913)
French Poster designer, end of the XIX century.
We hardly know nothing about the life of this artist, who realised about fourty chromolithographic posters and one watercolored, from 1885 to 1909, for his known work. He worked for 2 towns, Paris and Toulouse, for different printing works and particulary at CHAIX's and KOSSUTH's. Baylac used various styles for his compositions and he sometimes borrowed a lot from Jules CHERET for some of his work, or more radicaly in an other register. His whole oeuvre gives a quite good overview of the vintage advertisement art.

> NITSCHE Eric
  (born in Lausanne in 1908)
Swiss and American avant-garde poster designer and graphic designer of the mid-twentieth century
After Art schools in Switzerland, France and Germany, he moved to the USA in 1934. He designed 300 record covers and was graphic designer and Art director for different companies and cultural institutions.
In 1955 he become Art director of the General Dynamics. He designed the famous sets « Atom for peace » and « exploring the universe » about  scientific and energetic activities of this company. Founded in 1952, this company has different activities in the scientific research, such as atomic energy, electricity, electronic intelligence or space dynamics. They were producing aircraft, boats  nuclear power stations, , medical instrument against cancer. They built the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear-powered submarine etc.
These famous three set for the General Dynamics were designed by Eric Nitsche in 1955, 1958 and 1960. Unfortunately the exact date of each poster is not known.
Personally we consider that the set « Atom for peace » is the first one, created in 1955 to promote the pacific use of the atomic energy.
« Exploring the universe » is the second set designed in 1958 to show the research activities of the company.
And the third one about « Energy and industrial subjects » was printed in 1960.
Anyway it is not so important, they were all created between 1955 and 1960. They are now in museum collections and are prized by avant-garde collectors. The complete collection is very rare and hard to built.
